Connor and The Cucumber

In an attempt to sooth Connor's aching teeth, a friend told us to try giving him a cucumber. Here are Connor's thoughts on the matter.

Connor on the 4th

For the weekend of the fourth we got to see both Grandparents! Connor was so thrilled. This was the first time that Connor was able to go swimming.

Connor is 7 Months old now! He is 14lbs 6ozs Connor has poked out a second tooth and really tryin to poke the others through. (lots of fussing) This last week he got another ear infection to go along with the teething, fun eh. But he still is the cuttest baby in the world.

First Tooth!

July 12, 2010! Yesterday was an exciting day for Connor because he cut his first tooth. He has been teething for a while now, but yesterday was the big day. We were in line at the grocery store when he was smiling at me when I saw it. It was pretty exciting to see the top of his first little tooth coming through. If you look closely you can see his little bottom right front tooth in the photos. It was difficult to photograph this, but you will see a small white tooth.

6 Months Old

It is hard to believe that Connor is six months old already. The time is going by so quickly. He is eating some solids now. He has tried rice cereal, oatmeal, peas and carrots. He is NOT a fan of carrots at all. He actually gags every time you give them to him. I think I will reintroduce this vegetable in a few weeks after he tries some other things like squash or sweet potatoes. He can roll over from front to back and back to front but he does not roll continously just yet. He smiles at cameras and chews on everything. He loves the cats and notices them and smiles whenever they are around him. He is such a fun little guy.

Mommy's Home!

The past few weeks have been full of changes for our family. Julie resigned from Bradley and is now a stay-at-home Mom! She and Connor have enjoyed more time together this summer. Connor is learning many new things all the time. He is rolling over and grabbing his toys. He eats rice cereal and baby oatmeal really well. His new favorite sound is to brrrrooom with his lips. He does this frequently and spits all over the place and then laughs. He is really a funny boy.

A month of updates!

Connor had his 4 month doctor visit on April 30th. He weighed 10lbs 14 oz and is starting to reach the growth charts! He is in the 5th percentile for height, so we were excited to get on the charts. Dr. Beatty was happy with Connor's progress. Connor endured another series of vaccinations which is never a fun day, but he did very well.

We also started him on rice cereal which has been a fun adventure. He does not understand the eating from a spoon. It is funny because he tries to swallow with his mouth open and loses most of the cereal. He gets the cereal once a day and some days he cries the whole time so he doesn't really take any.

He is smiling and talking a lot now. He is almost rolling over, but that arm seems to get in the way. He grabs his toys and loves to play. Another funny thing about Connor these days is that he loves being naked! Whenever he gets his clothes changed or is getting ready for a bath, he is so happy. He smiles and coos at the cats too. He is still waking up at least once a night for feedings.

We have made two weekend trips with Connor this month too which have gone pretty well. We drove to Burlington, IA and stayed at Fun City for a wedding. The following weekend we traveled down to Springfield, MO for Aunt Becky's graduation. We drove at night which made the ride very easy. On the way home we stopped in St. Louis to visit the Zoo with Aunt Becky, Grandma and Grandpa and Great-Grandma Holmes.

Connor had his first ear infection last week. He had it in both ears, so he was not a happy boy.

15 weeks and an ambulance ride

You read that right; Connor got to take his first trip (and I hope his only trip) in an ambulance last night! What a night/day it has been. We woke up last night at 2am to Connor coughing and crying. When we went in his room we could see that he was struggling to breath and sounded like he was choking and wheezing. John turned him over and was patting his back while I quickly dialed the doctor to find out what we should do. The nurse on call had me put the phone up to Connor and told me that we should take him straight into the bathroom with the shower on hot to create steam while we dial 911 because he was going to need immediate breathing treatment. I dialed 911 and there was someone at the front door within 2 minutes! It was a police officer followed quickly by 2 paramedics within a minute. They looked over Connor and had me take him in the ambulance while the paramedic administered a vapor breathing treatment to help him breath. He was crying, so at least he was still breathing, but it was pretty scary.

John followed us to OSF and we were admitted to the emergency room right away. In the emergency room Connor was coughing very deeply, wheezing and crying. He had a chest x-ray and a steroid treatment for Croup. The doctor's have diagnosed him with croup: "an inflammation of the larynx (voice box) often caused by a viral infection during a cold or viral upper respiratory infection." We were taken from the emergency room to the pediatric floor around 5am. He received another breathing treatment this morning and it seems to be helping because he is sleeping right now with no noises. The doctors said that it will probably last a few more days with the flair ups being mostly at night time. John was able to run home this morning and get a few things (including the computer so I could blog and upload photos with this super-fast Internet while Connor is sleeping.)

2 Month Dr. Visit

We visited Dr. Beaty's office this week for Connor's 2 month check up. He is 8 lbs 2 oz and has almost made it onto the growth charts! He had to get 3 shots which was no fun, but he is doing fine now. He really likes grape Tylenol.

He has outgrown most of his newborn outfits and is now wearing 0-3 month size clothes. He also graduated from newborn to size one diapers this week.

He had a busy week attending Great Grandma Louise's 80th birthday party, meeting Great Grandma Holmes and visiting Bradley University for the first time. We can't wait for the weather to warm up so we can get out and go for walks.

Synagis Injection

Because Connor was born at the 34 week mark, he qualified to receive special injections to protect against RSV. RSV is respiratory virus that many babies get during the winter months. Premature babies are at a higher risk for RSV than full-term babies. Connor's doctor recommended that we get the injections in January, February and March because each injection is good for only 30 days. These injections are given to Connor at home by a nurse who comes to our house to administer the meds which are shipped to me the week before.

His January injection went well. I spent a lot of time working with the insurance and Home Health to make sure that we were covered for each injection ($4,000 each). I was surprised yesterday to find 2 packages from UPS each containing an injection for February. After several hours of phone calls, I learned that some how 2 pharmacies received his prescription and had shipped them to me. Medications cannot be returned even when you do not order them, so I am very thankful that Connor will need another injection in March and I can save the extra one until then. I spoke with the supervisors at both pharmacies to ensure that the March injection will not be shipped to my home. What a headache. I still am very confused as to how a pharmacy in Indiana would send a Synagis injection to me and refuse to take it back. I am glad that Connor was good this morning so that I could sit on the phone for over 2 hours to get this straightened out.
